Old Highway 66 Residence (under construction)
This Northwest contemporary home is as creative and eclectic as its owner/builder. With a design that draws from numerous different styles, and builder experience with innovative materials, this home uniquely arrives at a hybrid of sustainable solutions. The floor plan flows from the main entry and equally flows from the often used mudroom entry lending maximum flexibility and functionality. The central stair tower, serving as the hub from the mud entry, kitchen area, and central office, rises above hidden wine storage to a whimsical second story with children’s rooms and bonus area. It continues upward through a trap door into the Yoga/meditation cupola which is lined with windows of breathtaking views. The attached two car garage houses below its concrete slab two 15,000 gallon water holding tanks, capturing runoff from the roof. Utilizing recycled wood chip Fas-Wall insulated concrete forms, structural insulated panels, papercrete, and natural earthen plaster, this home maximizes its breathability and its insulative values. Increased thermal mass in the concrete floor, optimal passive solar orientation, zoned hydronic radiant floor heating, geo-thermal heat exchange, and heat recovery ventilation system gives this house a preliminary high performance Earth Advantage Platinum certification for its energy efficient strategies.
